Peace of Mind: A Little Garden Poem

Turn out at six on a still June morning.
That's the hour, with the dew sheeting
the grass, and no one but the birds busy.
Five o'clock may be better if the weather
is hot and fair. This is one of the mystery
hours in a garden, when the sunlight
comes slantingly, and strikes upon the
wet and brilliant colors, and everything
is still. You are alone. Your garden is
yours and with it the whole world.
Not a voice to be heard...you are alone
with beauty, an impersonal and strange
beauty, a something that heals the heart
of your restlessness.
For {we} need to be alone sometimes;
and flowers ask no questions.

Happy Gardening!!

  1. Hi Pammy,

Thank you for leaving a message on my blog. It was lovely to hear from you.

I only have a very small garden. It measures only about 30 x 40 feet - not so much room for us over on our small island as you have in the vastness of Texas haha! I cram as many plants as I can into it but it is full to overflowing now.

Rather than swap seeds with you I shall be very happy to send some to you whenever they occur.

I've just sent some aquilegia and allium seeds to Donna so I'm sure she will let you have some. Unfortunately these have all gone now I've sent lots out to various people but will happily send you some next year.

I'll have poppy seeds ready soon. These will be small yellow icelandic poppies and tall frilly pink poppies so if you email me your address I'll gladly send you some poppy seeds in a few weeks.

    1. Hi Fred, I wish I could remember. It was during a google search a couple of years ago. I just love this one! ;))
